OMS Portglenone Charity Shop - Part 3

OMS Portglenone Charity Shop - Part 3

| 15 April 2019

The OMS Portglenone Charity shop is an amazing resource for raising much needed financial support for worthy missionary causes in Colombia, Haiti and Ireland since its opening in June 2016.

OMS Portgleone Shop

It is situated in the lovely rural and welcoming town of Portglenone:

Just on the outskirts of the town is Portglenone Forest. On visiting the shop on a regular basis, occasionally I would leave home somewhat earlier than usual and take an early morning walk in the Forest to reflect and pray. In the month of May the Forest is covered in bluebells:

On one of these morning a member of the Forestry Service staff was there awaiting a visit of school children. They had a display of Forest animals to discuss with the children on arrival. Of which I had the privilege of seeing before the children's arrival:

It is just wonderful having these blessings which come from God and to feel a real sense of His presence amongst His wonderful creation. While reflecting on all of this the words of “How Great Thou Art” came to mind:

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

It is just wonderful to reflect on the greatness of God and in His goodness in providing salvation for us in the person of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
It certainly is a privilege to serve the Saviour and to make Him known.

Another hymn writer reflecting on seeing God’s creation through the eyes of believer expressed it as follows:

Heaven above is softer blue,
Earth around is sweeter green;
Something lives in every hue
Christless eyes have never seen:
Birds with gladder songs o’erflow,
Flow’rs with deeper beauties shine,
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine.

And that just came about from visiting a humble charity shop in Portglenone. Why not give us a visit and make it a day out in Portglenone and area.

If you would like to visit the shop it is located at 44 Main Street, Portglenone. The opening hours are 10.30am-4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday
